Peace will continue to elude Mthwakazi until we effectively deny space for the Zimbabwean systems and institutions based on tribalism to thrive. And the only sure way of stopping tribalism in our communities is stopping making excuses for all forms of discrimination anywhere within our social, economic and political space.

The importance of law in society is unquestionable hence Mthwakazi has continued to abide by laws within the unified Zimbabwe state. However, let it be known that we are not obligated to respect unjust laws that condemn us to suffering and laws to which our consent is not sort.

Without discipline, we will never follow through our goals, and our dreams of a socio-politically competent Mthwakazi will remain nothing but a delusion.

The Mthwakazi movement needs to adopt a transformational leadership stance that will inspire our people to be what they could be. We want to put to bed a pessimist political face in the region; thus, fighting negativity within our space must be the purpose for our political engagement.

People are free to exercise their right to choose but, they need to understand that with every choice comes responsibility. War cannot be casually pushed up the list of our interventions without giving a decent attempt at nonviolent interventions.

Our enemies will always see us as ignorant, thanks to ZANU PF indoctrination. But, to avoid being perceived as arrogant by our own, we need to start communicating and informing people of our political ideas more effectively.

We recognise that when it comes to Matabeleland, the Zimbabwean state operates in a parallel universe; a universe whose political processes and supporting institutions operate as though Matabeleland did not exist. Harare bypasses Bulawayo as it nonchalantly operates a political system of containment and management of Matabeleland, and not inclusion.

We recognise that voting system and elections (including the political process in general) have not been relevant to Matabeleland citizens, and people’s votes have not mattered – lives have not been improved by election outcomes. So, what is the way forward?

An analysis of the 2013 Zimbabwe general elections participation shows that a significant number of Mthwakazi citizens did engage in the process. We cannot dismiss that reality offhand; whatever we propose, needs to start from that base.
